How I Work

Working with you, not just for you

Counselling is not something that is done to you, it is a collaboration. I bring warmth, expertise, and an open mind. You bring your own story, your own strengths, and your own pace. Together, we find a way forward.

My Approach

Integrative - meaning shaped around you

I am an Integrative counsellor who adopts different theories to suit the client's needs. I particularly adopt a systemic approach, which means I explore the influences of family, community, and broader society that make up our individuals and can impact our relationships. There are so many challenges in life today which can ultimately affect us as individuals and in our relationships, causing concerns and difficulties. These can cause us to feel overwhelmed and unable to manage.

Everyone is unique and possesses strengths, some of which we don't always realise, or maybe we are unsure how to use them in certain circumstances. We might know concerns, but we cannot communicate them effectively, resulting in behaviors that can lead to further conflict in relationships.

I can help by working with you openly, exploring any concerns you may have, and finding ways to move forward. This involves an initial assessment and planning goals together. I am experienced in using a variety of theories, which can help achieve the changes you require.

Person-centred foundation

Rooted in genuine warmth, empathy, and unconditional positive regard, you are accepted exactly as you are.

Systemic thinking

Understanding your concerns in the context of your relationships, family history, and broader life experience.

Strengths-focused

Drawing out the inner resources you already hold — sometimes we simply need help seeing and using them.

Goal-oriented progress

We set goals together at the start and review them as we go — so you always know where we are heading.

Specialist Areas

Areas I have particular experience in

People come to counselling for many reasons. Some arrive with a very specific concern; others know something is not right but cannot yet name it. Both are entirely valid.

Whilst I work with a wide range of presenting issues, I have developed particular depth of experience and specialist knowledge in the following areas: Anxiety, Depression, bereavement, anger issues, relationships, infant loss, postnatal depression, termination and infant loss, PTSD and abuse.

Couples & Relationship Counselling

With a Master's degree in Relationship Counselling and experience at Relate, I have specialist depth in supporting couples, whether facing conflict, communication breakdown, infidelity, intimacy issues, or considering separation. I can also support couples who have decided to separate, helping them to do so with as much care and dignity as possible.

Infant Loss & Postnatal Support

Drawing on my background in nursing and midwifery, I bring particular sensitivity to those navigating infant loss, termination, and postnatal depression, areas that require both clinical understanding and profound compassion.

Trauma & PTSD

I am experienced in working with individuals who have lived through traumatic experiences, including abuse and complex trauma, creating a space that is gentle, paced, and always led by you.

Session Formats

Flexible to fit your life

I want counselling to be as accessible as possible. Sessions are available during the day and in the evening, and I offer three ways to meet, so you can choose what works best for you.

In Person

Face-to-face sessions at a calm, private location in the Scunthorpe area (DN17 / DN16 / DN15). Many clients find being physically present helps them feel most at ease.

Scunthorpe Area

Video Call

Online sessions via a secure video platform, accessible from wherever you are. A good option if distance, mobility, or preference makes in-person sessions difficult.

Anywhere

Telephone

Some people find it easier to open up without being seen. Telephone sessions are a valid, effective option and require nothing more than a private space and a phone.

Anywhere

Ready to find out if this feels right for you?

The first step is simply getting in touch. I offer a free initial consultation, no obligation, no pressure, so we can have a conversation before you commit to anything.
