Supervision

Supervision to support and grow your practice

I offer integrative supervision for both trainee and qualified counsellors, in person and via Zoom. A calm, experienced, and collaborative space to explore your practice, deepen your understanding, and develop your confidence as a therapist.

Who It's For

Supporting counsellors at every stage

Good supervision is not a formality, it is the foundation of a safe, ethical, and growing practice. Whether you are just beginning your counselling training or are a seasoned practitioner, the right supervisory relationship can transform the quality of the work you offer your clients.

I provide integrative supervision that is tailored to where you are in your professional journey. I draw on a variety of modalities and adapt my supervisory style to suit your needs, your caseload, and the complexities of your practice.

I am approachable, calm, and genuinely invested in developing a strong working alliance with each supervisee, because I know that the relationship between supervisor and supervisee is itself a powerful model for the therapeutic relationship.

Trainee Counsellors

Guidance and support as you navigate placement, build your practice, and work towards qualification. A safe space to reflect, question, and grow in confidence.

Qualified Counsellors

Ongoing professional support to help you manage complex cases, prevent burnout, maintain ethical standards, and continue developing as a practitioner.

Counsellors Seeking a New Supervisor

If you are looking for a change, perhaps a different approach or a fresh perspective, I welcome an exploratory conversation with no obligation to commit.

Qualifications & Background

Trained to the highest level - and still learning

My own practice as a counsellor, and my commitment to ongoing professional development, means I bring both formal training and lived, reflective experience to every supervisory relationship.

I continue to access regular CPD to ensure my supervisory practice reflects the most current thinking, and I value continued learning as much as I encourage it in those I supervise.

Level 6 Diploma

Diploma in Integrative Supervision

Completed at The Grove, London — one of the most respected supervision training programmes in the UK.

MSc

Masters in Relationship Counselling

Advanced academic and clinical training, giving depth to my understanding of relational and systemic dynamics within supervision.

NCPS

NCPS Registered Member

My supervision practice is governed by the NCPS ethical framework, ensuring you receive safe, professional, and accountable supervision.

Relate & More

Extensive Clinical Experience

Years of direct practice with individuals, couples, and families, including work with Relate, underpins my supervisory insight and grounding.

My Supervisory Model

The Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision

I use the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision, a well-established, holistic framework developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet. Rather than focusing narrowly on client work alone, this model attends to the full range of relationships and dynamics at play in counselling practice, ensuring that supervision is genuinely comprehensive.

1. The Client

Understanding the client's world, their presenting issues, and what they bring into the therapeutic space.

2. Interventions

Exploring the strategies and responses used by the counsellor, what happened, why, and what else might have been possible.

3. The Relationship

Examining the dynamic between counsellor and client, what is present in the room, consciously and unconsciously.

4. The Counsellor

Attending to what is happening within the therapist, feelings, reactions, blocks, and personal material that may be shaping the work.

5. Supervisory Relationship

Reflecting on what is emerging between supervisee and supervisor, the parallel processes and dynamics that mirror the client work.

6. The Supervisor

The supervisor's own responses, blind spots, and self-awareness, modelling the reflective practice expected of supervisees.

7. The Wider Context

Taking into account the broader environment, the organisation or setting, ethical considerations, cultural factors, and the wider social world that shapes both client and therapist.

Benefits of Supervision with Karen

What you can expect to gain

Supervision with me is not just a professional requirement to fulfil, it is a space for genuine growth, honest reflection, and practical support. Here is what working together offers.

A Strong Working Alliance

I prioritise the supervisory relationship itself. A trusting, collaborative, and open alliance is the foundation from which all good supervision grows.

Regular, Updated Knowledge

I actively engage in CPD and professional development, meaning the guidance and perspectives I bring are current, evidence-informed, and reflective of best practice.

Ethical Confidence

Working within the NCPS ethical framework, I help you navigate complex ethical dilemmas with clarity, protecting both you and your clients.

Deepened Self-Awareness

Through careful, compassionate reflection, supervision helps you understand your own responses, counter-transference, and how your history informs your practice.

Support with Complex Cases

A safe place to bring your most challenging client work, to think out loud, be challenged with care, and leave with greater clarity and resource.

Sustainable Practice

Good supervision supports your wellbeing, prevents burnout, and helps you maintain the energy and presence your clients deserve, session after session.

"Good supervision is not just about the client — it is about you, the therapist. When you are well-supported, your clients feel the difference."

— Karen Swarbrick
